Default Map Project 6

Upppppdaaaate!
I've gone a bit nuts today, mapping like crazy. Here are the items for this update. Areas Listed as "cleaned up" have recieved special treatment and should be much clearer and brighter than before

Updated:
Added "Coastal Arena", and surrounding area.
Added/moved "Gladiator's Arena" to near Denravi, and added surrounding area.
Remapped all of "Ascalon City", "Old Ascalon", And "Regent River Basin" explorable areas, because they've been heavily revamped. Shifted the area borders as well.
Sardelac Sanitarium moved.
Ascalon Arena moved slightly.
Cleaned up Denravi (Incomplete) and Tangle Root using some of my own screenshots.
Cleaned up the following Ascalon areas using my own screenshots and exploring: Ascalon City, Old Ascalon, Sardelac Sanitarium, Regent River Basin, Pockmark Flats, Serenity Temple, Fort Ranik, Eastern Frontier, The Great Northern Wall, Ruins of Surmia (Incomplete), The Breach (Incomplete).

Areas I would like screenshots of:
Yak's Bend Arena, in P and M maps, please. If you can, please try to map the inside of the arena.
Ascalon Arena, P and M maps, please. I need a map of the the inside of the arena.
Any areas, as explored as possible, not already listed as "Cleaned up". Any areas with an (Incomplete) are still open for mapping as well.
Any new or significantly changed areas.

Old Post is Below.

Eep! Almost forgot to write this up before the BWE started.

Here we go!

The Map Projects: For the uninitiated, these are a series of projects designed to map the world of Guild Wars as comprehensively as possible, by exploring and then taking screenshots of the world map. They are then posted or sent to me, and I compile them into a huge, complete map. For this BWE, we have not one, but two goals.

One: Find all new or changed areas. Explore! Everywhere! Look for areas that aren't the same as before! Look for new areas! Ect! The Usual!

Two: Cleanup. Explore as much as you can! I need comprehensive screenshots. The map is messy right now, but the more you have explored in a single screenshot, the cleaner I can make it. I have too many resized layers, areas that I've had to erase parts of, ect. So, try for this:

I need screenshots that are as comprehensive as possible. What does that mean? It means that all or most of the areas in the shot are COMPLETELY explored. I'd like to see screenshots of anything and anywhere on the map -- any area, but as explored as possible. If I can replace 12 layers of partically explored screenshots with one screenshot of the entire area, it becomes that much clearer.

Also, two optional things which, while certainly not required, would definitely help a lot.

1: Screenshots taken when running GW at 1280x1024. This means I don't have to resize them, and trust me, this saves a huge amount of time as well as making the map cleaner -- I don't know the ratio for resizing shots, so I usually do them by hand using free transform. This isn't clean, to say the least. I suspect at least half the shiverpeaks is in slightly off because of this.

2: Screenshots taken of the "P" map, rather than the "M" map. The clouds layer that moves over the "M" map constantly changes everything. Screenshots taken in the map that appears when you press "P", however, have no clouds layer, and lack the pesky UI elements that appear on the "M" map. Simply resize the "P" window as large as you can before taking the screenshot.

So now, let's get down to business.
Shots should be either posted here, or you can PM me for my e-mail address. I'd also appreciate you telling me, when sending a shot, whether it is a "new area" shot or a "cleanup" shot, as this will help me keep them organized. I'll be mapping myself during the event, and I may periodically post areas where I'd especially appreciate a focus on.

Oh, and don't forget to have fun!

I finished remapping the shiverpeaks a half-hour ago.

All of the shiverpeaks.

On a single character.

I'm way too tired to edit this into my post, it's 4 AM.

Updated:
Added 51 horizontal pixels to the map to compensate for areas of shiverpeaks that were previously screwed up due to resizing.
Added Gladiator's Arena near Yak's bend
Remapped the following areas:
Hillclimb (now Ascalon Foothills)
Alpine Tableau (now Traveler's Vale)
Yak's Bend
Iron Horse Mine
Anvil Rock
Ice Tooth Cave
Dreidmor Bowl
Beacon's Perch
Gryphon's Mouth
Scounrdrel's Rise (may be incomplete due to nessecary blending and erasure)
Borlis Pass
The Frost Gate (Many changes here)

I would like to extend a huge thanks to the many people who formed the mapping parties in which I completely reexplored the shiverpeaks from scratch.

Thank you to:
Godric Verduk (Ascalon Foothills, Traveler's Vale, Yak's Bend, Iron Horse Mine): Thanks for being the first person to help.

Absolute Niete, Malwielder Keinplan, Zenny Zebastrife (Yak's Bend, Traveler's Vale, Iron Horse Mine): Thank you for partying with me and putting up with my constant crazed running off in the middle of battles to map.

W O R M <Ultimate Mapping Group> [Also Known As SeriousWorm] (Yak's Bend, Traveler's Vale, Iron Horse Mine): Sorry GW crashed on you, but it was fun while it lasted. Maybe I'll pick an area you have access to next time

Chord Less <Ultimate Mapping Group> (Iron Horse Mine, Anvil Rock, Icetooth Cave): Thanks for helping me last BWE in past ascalon, and for being part of my "ultimate mapping group" this time. I appreciate it.

Lord Balerith <Ultimate Mapping Group> (Iron Horse Mine, Anvil Rock, Icetooth Cave, Dreidmor Bowl, Beacon's Perch): Thanks for coming even though you had no idea who I was or what we were doing, as well as putting up with being the only warrior in the group for quite a while.

Azreal Malachi <Ultimate Mapping Group> (Iron Horse Mine, Anvil Rock, Icetooth Cave, Dreidmor Bowl, Beacon's Perch): Thanks for sticking with me for almost the entire explorable area haul, and previous mapping expiditions in BWEs. I had a great time.

Masta Cheese, Faiko Nightstar (Dreidmor Bowl, Beacon's Perch): Thanks for coming along with us in the later half of the explorable expidition.

Default Bui (Dreidmor Bowl, Beacon's Perch, Gryphon's Mouth): Thanks for staying interested and available even when the party had become full. Sorry you crashed just before we got to gates of kryta. Had a great time in the ice caves.

Liana WindellDreidmor Bowl, Beacon's Perch, Gryphon's Mouth, Scoundrel's Rise, North Kryta Province) Thanks for sticking with me for the entire second half of the explorable expedition, and for being a cool guildmate

Zaklex Gldineys: (Scoundrel's Rise, North Kryta Province) Thanks for filling out the party during the home stretch. Good luck with that guild tourney thing, whatever it is.

Gladiator Of Doom (Borlis Pass) Glad you like the maps! You've certainly helped contributed to them now. No inventory messups next time, eh?

Atuin Blue (Borlis Pass): Thanks for helping, and being our torch carrier.

Angelfire Crusader (Borlis Pass, The Frost Gate); Thanks for coming when I asked for some guildie-help. I appreciate it a lot. You are the craziest rushing Mo/W I have ever seen.

Mighty Welder, Shivan Vice, Fluffy Teddy Bear (The Frost Gate): Thanks for helping on the last mission and being (for the most part) patient with my mapping. Weird about that side quest, eh?

Alesia Baptiste <Healer> (All): Thank you for being our constant companion as an A.I. and tolerating the constant 60% death penalty from your great number of unforunate deaths from functioning as "team distraction".

I suppose the rest of you came here for something. The map, right?
Well, here it is; take a look at how nice and shiny the shiverpeaks is. Trust me, it doesn't get any cleaner than this.

I got a credit I got a credit! This makes me love Moo even more! Besides the fact that he gets grumpy sometimes! Um.. wait.. where was I going with this?

Oh yes! Thank you so much for all your effort on the map, Moo/Thar/(wait til I mangle your name, too).. I know lots and lots of sleepless hours went into this.. and well.. to everyone else, if you want a detailed map you can get lost in (just like GW! *gasp*) because it's so immense.. well.. here is the map that will lead you to the destination of your heart's desire!

I sound like some informercial, don't I?

But thank you, Thar It was lots of fun running through Shiverpeaks, and finding the pretty, snowy dragons' lair.

See you next BWE!

Hi Moo,

Some people, especially the new players, seemed a bit confused that tombs wasn't in your big map. Can I make a suggestion that an overhead map be made? It doesn't have to be too detailed.. or even just a "lower portion of the world" so that people can see where the Guild Hall and Tombs are. Since there are only a couple of dots down there, it can even be a pretty small map.

Blargh! The curse of the tombs returns. I"ve debated with myself a lot about this, because I really don't feel like the huge filesize inscrease nessecary to add all the areas up to the tombs (as well the sheer time to take all the background screenshots) is really worth it until there is some STUFF down there... I tried overlaying it on the current map but it looked silly... I'm not sure about the idea for making a seperate "tombs map", I suppose I could do that. Depends on the interest level, really. If anyone else wants to see a small "the tombs is here!" map, post!

And now for the update:

CleanUpdate!
Special thanks to Immortius, because without him there would BE no update today. That's right, everything changed was from shots taken by him. Wow!

Cleaned Up:
The Breach
Diessa Lowlands
Charr Flame Temple
Dragon's Gullet
Nolani Academy

With this, ascalon and the shiverpeaks are essentially complete in terms of cleanup. Whee! And yes, I know about some of the issues you guys hame mentioned, they're on my to-do list.

Things I'll fix....later:
Northern Kryta -> North Kryta Province (Name Change)
Whatever the heck is up with the 2nd portal into the breach from old ascalon
Stuff that I probably forgot
That line between The Falls and Reed Bog

What I need: Fully Explored, or at least mostly explored, screenshots of Kryta and Maguuma Jungle! All the screenshots I've recieved so far of those areas have been partially explored, which makes them a fair bit harder to use to clean up the map. Thanky!

Ooookay, due to some weird error the forums are pretending the preceding post doesn't actually exist, at least according to its position on the boards and who made the last post... I'm gonna try making a second post and seeing what happens.

Edit: That's more like it.

Moomoo! I think you can wait until release

There was that post over at TGH about how the Korean GW website shows actual map pinmarks/destinations/outposts near tombs.. and since the last mission does let us know that we're going to head over there, anyways..

Lots of mapping ahead, no?

P.S. Thank you for all the updates!

It was a pleasure to assist you in finishing up Scoundrel's Rise and North Kryta Province, and it wouldn't have been possible without me having made those crude directions for Aria to Ascalon Settlement way back in January.

Yep! No more begging random groups in LA to come with me through the tengu army or through the murky swamps, like in the Dec BWE! Just grab a couple of henchment, skip down to the alternate route, and take a nice, solo run on the beach before skidding to a stop before Captain Greywind!
